Those things above her head are cobra hoods... as Eve is a naga. I would have drawn the cobra-jewel naturally embedded in her forehead, but her hair was in the way, and I was halfway cutting her out when I thought of it.
Production Notes:
- The color of her clothes was originally meant to be earthy, but was changed during coloring to be more showy and vibrant. Specifically, the green and blue tones are meant to provoke a link to the Blue Peacock, another prominent symbol in Indian mythology.
- I purposely left the six cobra hoods shielding Eve's head uncolored. I felt this would give them a stony, serious vibe similar to that given off by stone naga statues at temples and shrines. In contrast to the gaudy, cultural colors of Eve's clothes, the cobra heads serve as a reminder of what Eve really is - a powerful natural being who commands respect.
- I wanted all the cobra heads to have flickering tongues. As the snake's tongue is a potent sensory apparatus, a protruding tongue would indicate vigilance and mindfulness. But due to difficulty cutting out the figure, I decided to only have a few heads with tongues out.
She has a paper stand behind her - designed by me, built by me - that allows her to sit up on my shelf and chill
I managed to cut her out without severing her head or hoods or tongues or anything... holy achievement!
Thank you, Fixel! This was a pleasure to draw and make. Just had to be careful applying scissors around her strands of hair! Now Eve guards my dreams when I sleep...
